SMA, created in 1997, is owned by international technology leader, SAFRAN.

SMA is specialized in the development, production, commercialization and support of piston engines, burning Jet fuel with a diesel cycle Technology.

SMA headquarter and manufacturing plant are located in Bourges, center of France (250 kms south of Paris). All administrative, commercial, Customer Support, Purchasing, Manufacturing and manufacturing Engineering are in Bourges.

The Engineering department is located within Snecma in Villaroche, South East of Paris, where Snecma develops and does the assembly of all their turbo fans. SMA gets the benefits of all expertises and methodology managed by Snecma for any Aeronautical Engine.

SMA, comprised of a team of about 50 people, is specialized in the development, production, commercialization, and support of Jet A piston engines. Type certificate programs are currently in place with leading OEMs on several aircraft types : Maule and Vulcanair to name a few.The STC for the C182 in Europe was obtained on September 2003. On July 2006, CEO Mr Luc Pelon announced that FAA certification of the Cessna 182 SMA powered SR305-230 Jet A fuel Piston Engine had been signed. Others are also in progress, such as the PA28 and TB20.
